3/30/14 - LROMMC 2014 - Final Four has been set

I have updated Google Drive with the final eight possible scenarios. A five way tie will happen if Connecticut makes it to the championship game. It will be a matter of the Kentucky/Wisconsin game to determine if those five will fight it out for all three places or if Matt will take the win and leave 2nd and 3rd to be fought over. If Florida makes it to the championship however, Stephen and Jason will battle for first with Chris in 3rd, unless Kentucky beats Florida in the title game where William gets in the mix with Stephen and Jason, where they will all battle it out for all three places.

Here are the current standings wit updated links so you can view everyone's picks.

- March Madness 2014 - We have a Final Four set

I've updated the final 8 possible scenarios on Google Drive. Elizabeth still has a chance of pulling a double win, and there is also a slim chance that two Walkers could place in the same year. This feat has never happened in the past either.

I've finally updated the links as well, you can now view everyone's picks if you would like.

3/29/14 - Little Rock Office March Madness Challenge 2014 Half way to the Final Four

With two teams checking in to the Final Four, Florida and Wisconsin, we are down to only 32 possible scenarios that can still play out. With that, I have created a spread sheet on Google Drive that breaks down each play out and who would win if that happened. Here is the link --> Click Here.

Interesting tidbits based on the last possible scenarios: There are only 8 people still in the running for a top 3 finish. If Kentucky and Connecticut face each other in the championship game, regardless of the winner, there will be a 5 way tie for first, second and third. Michael has locked in the last place finish, and William has 12 in 32 possibility in winning first. This would be a big swing with a 2nd to last place finisher winning and a two time winner coming in dead last.

Here are the standings for those still interested.

Name Points Tiebreak
Stephen Shirley 60 128
Darren Tillery 60 141
Jason Holland 60 115
Randy Spellins 59 143

A few highlights of the scenarios. Elizabeth has a chance of winning multiple positions, including a first and second place finish. This would definitely be a first. Only 9 people are still in the running for a potential spot in the top 3, and several of those will have to win a four way tiebreak in order to get one of those positions.

Here are the current standings, with tiebreaks for those still interested.

Here are the current standings after the Sweet 16 has been set. Randy is really taking off with his scores but has last 3 of this Elite 8 teams already, putting him at a slight disadvantage. Roderick's prediction of Tennessee to win it all is looking better, but still has a long way to go.

3/20/14 - My most sincere apologies to those in the Pool

Due to unforeseen circumstances, I will not be able to post scores until after Friday evening's games. I can assure you that no one has the perfect billion dollar bracket, although some gave it a run. I really do feel bad that the scores won't be up until sooner, but alas, life gets in the way sometimes.

3/17/14 - 5th Annual Little Rock March Madness Office Challenge

If you are looking for the Walker March Madness Pool, please follow and bookmark this link.

Welcome to the 5th Annual (skipped a year) Little Rock Office March Madness Challenge (LROMMC) 2014. The rules are simple and are included below. Since everyone is here in the office, it should be pretty easy to collect the brackets. I will not be passing out brackets individually unless you request one from me. I'll print out a couple and place them on my desk, feel free to pick up a few if you'd like. I might send an email Thursday morning before the games start as a reminder, but I'm taking it much easier on everyone this year.

Past trophy winners include Carl, William and our most recent trophy winner Sejal. Of course Michael has held our first place trophy for the last three years, having won in 2011 and 2012 and a 3rd place finish in 2010. The only other name on our trophy multiple times is Darren with a win in the inaugural pool of 2009 and a 2nd place finish in 2012. To view the trophy, it is currently sitting on my desk, waiting to be delivered to this year's winner.

Those of you interested in a higher stakes pool, please view the link listed at the top of the page or just talk to me about it.

Daily updates (daily as in game day) will be made on this website with the most up to date scores. I will no longer be doing daily emails, you'll just have to check back here to see who's winning (or how bad your are doing).

  1. A completed bracket should contain the following information:
    • A prediction for all 63 games of the tournament
    • The play-in games do not count for points. If you have a play-in game winner, both teams will be treated as one. For example, if you have NC State or Xavier beating Saint Louis, you would get a point for picking a Saint Louis loss, regardless of your choice of NC State/Xavier.
    • The entrants name and tiebreak point prediction (see below).
  2. Points will be awarded for winning picks as follows:
    • By picking the winner of a 1st round game, 1 point is awarded.
    • By picking the winner of a 2nd round game (correctly placing a team in the Sweet 16), 2 points are awarded.
    • By picking the winner of a Sweet 16 game (correctly placing a team in the Elite 8), 3 points are awarded.
    • By picking the winner of an Elite 8 game (correctly placing a team in the Final Four), 4 points are awarded.
    • By picking the winner of a Final Four game (correctly placing a team in the Championship game), 5 points are awarded.
    • By picking the winner of the Championship game (correctly predicting the NCAA National Champion), 6 points are awarded.
  3. Tie Breaker
    • In the case of a tie at the end of the tournament, a tiebreak will be determined by the entry correctly guessing the TOTAL number of points scored by both teams in the Championship game.
    • If a tiebreaker is not provided at the time of bracket submission, a default tie breaker of 0 will be used.
    • The winning entry with the closest prediction to the actual total (whether going over or not) will be given the win. If both entries are equally close, the individual who chose lower than the actual total will be awarded the win.
    • In the case that none of the "Winners" submit a tiebreak prediction (or if the predictions are the same), the entrant with the most correct picks in the first round will be given the win.
    • If still tied, the 2nd round will be used, followed by the third round, etc.
    • If still no winner has been determined, by the championship game, the entrants will share the title or position.

- March Madness 2014, the pool is back

If you are looking for the rules for the Annual Little Rock Office March Madness Challenge held for office mates, please follow and bookmark this link.

March Madness is here. As in years past, my time is stretched pretty thin. This year will be much more casual than year's past (if that's even possible). Brackets will need to be sent to me via text, email or snail mail and payment will need to be made to me via Paypal, Amazon Payments, Amazon e-GiftCard or snail mail. See below for more details about electronic forms of payment.

I'll put my address, phone number and email address at the end of this section. All you will need to do is print out the bracket from this link (ESPN is my preferred bracket simply for consistency), fill it out and send it to me somehow along with payment (still only $5 a bracket).

Daily updates (daily as in game day) will be made on this website with the most up to date scores. I won't be sending out score reminders via email, you'll just have to check back here to see who's winning (or how bad your are doing).

Payment Options

    • The entrants name, phone number, email and tiebreak point prediction. The contact information is only used for payouts. Don't worry about spam, I hate it as much as you do.
  2. To be eligible for the pool money, an entry fee of $5.00 is required.
    • This fee must be received before tip off of the first game on Thursday (exceptions do apply as explained at the beginning of this post) or in an envelope postmarked by Wednesday before the first game.
    • Other brackets are readily accepted, however if the fee is received after the tip-off, no prize money will be rewarded to the entry.
    • All brackets received will be listed among the leaders and prize money eligibility will be denoted. I have found it interesting to see how individuals do, regardless of their interest in college basketball or pools.
  3. Multiple brackets can be entered per person.
    • Each individual can have no more than 4 brackets eligible for prize money.
    • For every bracket entered, the entry fee is required in order to be eligible. If only a portion of entered brackets should be eligible, I have to be informed before the first game, otherwise, I will denote the eligible brackets based on the order I enter them in the system.
  4. Prize disbursement will be determined as follows:
    • 1st Place receives 60% of the final pool rounded up to the nearest whole dollar.
    • 2nd Place receives 30% of the final pool rounded up to the nearest whole dollar.
    • 3rd Place receives 10% of the final pool rounded off to complete the total prize pool.
    • If still no winner has been determined by the championship game, the entrants will share the title or position.
