8/13/08 - Great sporting events in history.

As a followup to my post about the 4 x 100m men's freestyle event, Here are some of the most emotional sporting events I can remember. There are other great moments, but these are the ones that I can recall that brought me nearly to tears due to the events leading up to and/or surrounding the moment itself.

- Obviously, the swimming event mentioned previously

- Kerri Strug's vault in 1996 on a virtually destroyed ankle.

- 1994 NCAA Basketball Championship when Scotty Thurman hit his three pointer to all but clinch the title for the Razorbacks

- 1993 World Series, Game 6 when Joe Carter, in the bottom of the 9th inning down by one run hit a three run homerun to win the series for the Blue Jays.

- Derek Redmond in 1992 finishing the 400m race helped by his father across the finish line after pulling his hamstring.

- 2007 Fiesta Bowl where underdog Boise State pulled out two trick plays to beat Oklahoma in overtime. Following the game, which was straight out of a movie and enough in and of itself to make the list, Ian Johnson proposed to his girlfriend.

Feel free to leave your own emotional sporting moments in the comments below.
