11/8/06 - Work, W00t, and Flagr

Wow, what a lot of stuff going on. To keep with the topic of conversation in the most recent update at hi2u. How 'bout them Hawgs!!!. As some people may or may not know, this coming Saturday in Fayetteville, the U of A will be hosting College Game Day for the first time. That's awesome to me because it's almost as if Arkansas is getting a little bit of recognition. Granted, it's been a while since we've had a power house, but with McFadden getting talked mentioned in the same sentence as the Heisman, game day in fayetteville, the razorbacks ranked near the top 10...what more can a hog fan ask for? (besides an sec title, a bcs bowl game and a national championship as a long shot).

Work couldn't really be better right now. I got here at 7:00 on Monday and again today which means that I get to leave at 4:00 in the afternoon. That's a huge bonus from my previous job where even if I got to work at 4 in the morning, I worked til 5:30 or 6:00. Of course, I left at 5:30 or 6:00 even if I got there at 10:00, so there was no reason for me to get to work early. Apparently, they don't need me anymore as they changed the password on my computer so I no longer have remote access to provide support. I have no idea what that's all about, but I was excited to be able to stay on and help them on a contracting basis.

Recently, I came across an interesting site W00t.com. Today they have an interesting item, a 6gb flash drive for only $50 plus shipping, but I've never heard of the name of it, so I'm not sure if it would be a good idea to get it or not. Besides that, I currently don't have a use for a 6gb flash drive and definitely don't want to pay the money for something I don't need.

The wife has a busy schedule this week. She mistakenly scheduled herself for 52 hours or so which is great for the pocket book, but bad for the social life (me) and sleep habits.

This afternoon I'm going to be going to Home Depot and getting me a mini-fridge. I'm pretty excited about it because even though I like to eat out as much as the next guy, it's a lot cheaper and easier in many situations to be able to turn around and pull a sandwich out of the fridge. We've got a shared fridge in the break room, but I've lost to many drinks and lunches at previous jobs to shy away from that situation.

Finally, along the same lines as lunch and eating, I started a new flagr (yes, that's spelled correctly) map that shows the places that I've eaten since starting work here at Midland. I've also labeled a few other places with the Midland tag and am going to try to get some of the other guys to start contributing. The site is pretty easy to use and I've found it very interesting at times. I'm also hoping it becomes useful to at least someone because for me, I was looking for something similar so I would know the best places to eat in the area. The map for the places to eat can be found here and another map I created can be found here. Also, by doing a tag search of Midland, you can find the other places I've tagged related to my new job.
